Hypnosis for childbirth, also known as hypnobirthing, is used to complement the natural, unique experience that childbirth is. Hypnobirthing works to enable you to gain a positive attitude towards your individual birthing experience.

You will gain trust in your own body so that you can relax and manage the experience, rather than fearing it. Identifying and releasing any fears you have around pregnancy will impact positively on your experience of childbirth.

Hypnobirthing enables you to reach a state of relaxation so you can feel calm, confident and in control at all times. Hypnosis will prepare your mind and body for birth, using self-hypnosis, relaxation, breathing techniques and visualisation.

Hypnobirthing is not just for the mums-to-be! Birthing partners will benefit from the relaxation techniques to keep them feeling calm and confident, feeding back this feeling to the pregnant woman, and enabling them to give the support that is needed in the birthing environment.

I offer one to one sessions for pregnant women with or without birthing partners. Contact me to make an enquiry.

Hypnosis for childbirth has a wealth of supporting research behind it.

Some frequently asked questions:

What is the difference between hypnobirthing and easibirthing®?

Hypnobirthing is a generic term which covers any hypnosis for childbirth models.
I am an easibirthing® practitioner. easibirthing® is a UK based model which was developed in conjunction with midwives and therefore complements UK birthing practices. easibirthing® is a registered trademark and therefore any practitioner using this trademark has been fully trained and qualified. The Certified Hypnotic Birthing Practitioner (CHBP) qualification is the only hypnosis for childbirth qualification in the UK which is independently accredited.

When is the best time to see a hypnobirthing practitioner? Have I left it too late in my pregnancy?

Although it is always beneficial to have time to practice the techniques (you will also have a set of recordings to listen to), even in the later stages of pregnancy you will benefit from the hypnotherapy sessions and relaxation techniques.

Is hypnobirthing only useful for those planning a conventional birth?

Hypnobirthing is useful for all women who want to feel calm, confident and in control during their birthing experience. Achieving this state of mind will also help you, and your birthing partner, to focus on the right decisions for you and your baby.

Will I definitely have a pain-free birth?

No one can guarantee that. However, the use of hypnosis has been found to reduce the need for pain medication during labour. It is believed that fear and anxiety cause tension which in turn causes pain sensations. Pain sensations then lead to more fear. Hypnosis can release fears prior to the birth and increase feelings of deep relaxation during labour thus breaking this fear-tension-pain cycle.
